Development and Validation of a Scale to Explore Pre-Service Teachers’ Sense of Preparedness, Engagement and Self-Efficacy in Classroom Teaching

Raising the quality of initial teacher education can make an important contribution to raising overall school system. In Australia, National Framework for Professional Standards Teaching is used as a common framework set standards accreditation programs. However, institution-wise assessments need be carried out regularly explore preparation pre-service teachers receive and what extent they feel well prepared enter teaching. This will enable programs implement strategies strengthen link between university coursework professional practice pre service teachers. paper discusses development validation scale measure pre- teachers’ perceptions preparedness teach, readiness engage with teaching profession self-efficacy in The study also proposes model describing relationship among these variables. Data was collected from 235 final year using newly developed questionnaire at Australian university. shows that Pre Teacher Experience (PTPE) theoretically sound, gender invariant psychometrically valid instrument. implications programmes are discussed context findings.
